Cesare Tacchi
(Rome, 1940 – Rome, 2014)
Cesare Tacchi takes part - together with Tano Festa, Giosetta Fioroni, Franco Angeli, Sergio Lombardo, Pino Pascali, Francesco Lo Savio, Renato Mambor, Jannis Kounellis and Mario Schifano - in the artistic movement born in Rome in the ‘60s named Scuola di Piazza del Popolo. From 1964 he started using wallpapers, satin, and fabric furniture - padded and quilted - as support for the images. The artist outlines with enamel or black ink on the padded canvases, figures and silhouettes of actors, celebrities and friends. In the ‘70s Tacchi makes a series of quadri-oggetto in which the empty frame becomes protagonist. From the ‘80s Tacchi returns to the canvas in a reconstructive process according to which the colour is pure, the brush flat and the sign led by mathematical logic.
