Salvo (Leonforte, 1947 – Turin, 2015)
Salvo was an Italian artist. In 1962, he was deeply impressed by a Francis Bacon exhibition at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Turin, and the following year he took part in the 121st Exhibition of the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti with a drawing inspired by Leonardo. He created copies after Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Fontana, and Chagall.
He became involved with artists of the Arte Povera movement and several important art critics, such as Renato Barilli, Germano Celant, and Achille Bonito Oliva. In 1970, he presented a series of self-portraits at the Galleria Sperone in Turin and held his first solo exhibition at the Galleria Françoise Lambert in Milan.
He held numerous solo shows in both Italian and international galleries and took part in many exhibitions. In 1984, he participated in the 41st Venice Biennale, and later, following a trip to Turkey and Yugoslavia, he began producing orientalist works.
