Nicola Carrino
(Taranto, 1932 - Rome, 2018)
Nicola Carrino was a professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts until 1992 and a member of the National Academy of San Luca. His first solo exhibition took place in 1958. Until 1962 he used a painting style showing several different influences, ranging from Realism to Informal. From 1962 to 1967 he was part of the Group 1 in Rome, conducting research on plastic-construction. In 1969, he created the Costruttivi Trasformabili, modular sculptures made in iron and steel, and the so-called Intervention of Transformation in art galleries and urban space. Since 1967, Carrino designed and created sculptures and environmental resolutions in relation to the urban space, the landscape, and within public buildings. In 2002, he curated the International Conference The synthesis of the arts today for the National Academy of San Luca.
